We have received an email from one of our readers today asking us when Android 5.0 custom ROM’s or official firmware upgrade coming to Asus Zenfone 5 because he mentioned that an Android 5.0 lollipop custom ROM is already available for the Asus Zenfone 5. We were baffled by that statement because Android 5.0 Lollipop official update and source code isn’t even released for Nexus devices like Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 at the moment. If the source code isn’t available, there is no way for developers to make custom ROM’s for other devices.
Looking at that web page containing the guide, brave readers will be able to figure out that its not a legitimate guide or web site at all. Writer claims that he is rewriting the guide from XDA on his web page but there aren’t any such guides on XDA for sure. Also on the bottom of the page, there is a comment box but the 3 comments published there are just a image not actual comments.
There is a screenshot of settings page of Asus Zenfone 5 after the upgrade as author claims but its a screenshot taken from a Samsung device running Touchwiz UI. He has edited the screenshot to add the model number as Asus Zenfone 5 and such.
Here is the link to the web page – Fake lollipop update page
Author claims that the download file size for this custom ROM is 128MB and he has split it to 3 parts and posted the links to file sharing site called “downloadsafe.org”. There is another suspicion here because these days almost every file sharing sites accept file sizes bigger than 128MB so there is no need to split it to 3 parts. When investigating we found that “downloadsafe.org” is actually a part of a PPD (Pay Per Download) network and it lets people to upload files to earn cash from downloads. But most of the time these downloads contains malwares and viruses.
Don’t fall in to these type of scams because you would end up with viruses on your computer and bricking your phone if you try to flash these files on your phone. Official time line for Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrades are announce by the brand only if. You can search Google for updates. Check genetic of the site is before confirmation.
We tried to click on other link too but the site is so fake that it again redirect to the page you open at first place. Does not believe until your manufacturer had said.
